For tax year 2022 only
Because of the efforts made over the last nine years that have allowed Indiana to fund critical needs while maintaining the state’s competitive tax environment, many Indiana taxpayers will receive a one-time $125 taxpayer refund in 2022. You do not need to take any action to receive the $125 payment if you qualify. The Department of Revenue has also elected to send another payment of $200 to qualifying Indiana taxpayers.
If Indiana is unable to direct deposit your ATR payments, they will mail you a check.
How do I qualify for the $125 payment?
To be eligible for the initial $125 Automatic Taxpayer Refund, individuals must have filed an Indiana resident tax return for the 2020 tax year by January 3, 2022.
What about the $200 payment?
If you received the $125 Automatic Taxpayer Refund by direct deposit, you should receive another direct deposit for $200 ($400 if married filing jointly) automatically. Direct deposits could arrive as early as Aug 19, 2022, though the Indiana Department of Revenue expects most direct deposits to arrive around Aug 24, 2022.
If you did not receive the $125 payment, you can still qualify for the $200 payment if you meet the following requirements:
- The taxpayer must have received Social Security benefits in calendar year 2022, and
- cannot be claimed as a dependent on someone else's 2022 tax return.
What if I do not receive the $200 payment automatically?
If you are eligible for the $200 ATR but did not receive it, you can claim the payment as a refundable state tax credit on your 2022 Indiana resident tax return.
