The credit for taxes paid to another state is automatically calculated in your account when you add a Nonresident return to your already created Resident Massachusetts return if you owe taxes on income that is reported and taxed on the Massachusetts return.
**Note: According to the Massachusetts website, the tax due is not the same as taxes withheld.
You are not allowed this credit if you have:
- Taxes paid to the US Government
- Taxes paid to a foreign country other than Canada or any of its provinces
- Any city or local tax
- Interest and penalties paid on tax due to another jurisdiction
- Excise, property tax or franchise tax
Please see the Massachusetts DOR website for more information on this credit.
