When filing your Maine income tax return, you can choose to make voluntary contributions to certain state funds and purchase Maine State Park day-use passes directly through your return. Any contributions or park pass purchases will either increase the amount you owe or reduce your refund. These amounts are reported on Maine Schedule CP.
Program Entry
To enter charitable contributions or purchase park passes in the software:
- Go to the State section.
- Select the Maine return using the three-dot menu.
- Choose Contributions and Park Passes.
From this section, you can:
- Make voluntary contributions to eligible Maine funds.
- Purchase Maine State Park day-use passes.
Voluntary Contributions
Maine allows taxpayers to donate any amount to one or more of the following funds:
- Endangered and Nongame Wildlife Fund
- Maine Children's Trust Incorporated
- Companion Animal Sterilization Fund
- Maine Military Family Relief Fund
- Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery Maintenance Fund
- Maine Public Library Fund
- Children's Cancer Research Fund
- Emergency Food Assistance Program Fund
Enter the amount you would like to contribute to each fund. Your contributions will be reported on Maine Schedule CP.
If you itemize deductions, these contributions may qualify as charitable contributions on your federal and Maine income tax returns for the following tax year, subject to applicable deduction rules.
Park Passes
You can also purchase Maine State Park day-use passes when filing your Maine return. Simply enter the number of passes you would like to buy, and the program will automatically calculate the cost and include it on Schedule CP.
Available pass types include:
- Individual Day-Use Park Pass
- Vehicle Day-Use Park Pass
Amended Returns
If you file an amended Maine return, the charitable contribution and park pass amounts must remain the same as those reported on your original return. These amounts cannot be changed on an amended return.
