The Alabama Payments section is used to enter specific state-related payment amounts that are not already included elsewhere in the tax return. This section provides fields for entering additional manual Alabama payments when applicable.
What Can Be Found in the Alabama Payments Section?
This section includes fields for:
⏳Extension Payment Amount
A field to enter any payment made when filing an Alabama Request for Extension.
- Only enter an amount if a payment was actually submitted with the extension.
🔄Refund Applied to Next Year’s Taxes
A field to indicate how much of the current year’s Alabama refund should be applied to a future tax year (for example, 2026).
📄Schedule CP (Schedule K-1 Payments)
Payment amounts related to Schedule CP / Schedule K-1 entries may be included here when applicable.
What Will Not Appear in the Alabama Payments Section and Where to Enter Them
Some payment-related amounts will not display in this section because they are automatically applied elsewhere in the return. These include:
🧾Alabama income tax withheld — pulled from Form 1040 (multiple locations within the Federal return)
🧭Estimated tax payments — entered in:
Federal → Payments & Estimates → State Estimated Tax Payments
✅Refundable credits — certain credits are automatically calculated and carried from the Federal return to the Alabama return
- Any supported credits not automatically applied can be entered in the Credits section of the Alabama return
