A Submission ID is a unique 20-digit confirmation number assigned by the IRS or state agency when an electronically filed tax return is transmitted. The Submission ID can be used to identify a specific electronic filing submission.
Where Can I Find My Submission ID?
You can find your Submission ID within your account by following these steps:
- Log in to your account.
- Scroll to the list of tax years on the Tax Home page.
- Click the three dots next to the tax year you want to view.
- Select View.
- The return details page will display the Submission ID associated with that filing.
What is the Submission ID Used For?
A Submission ID serves as confirmation that a return was electronically submitted for processing.
- A new Submission ID is generated each time a return is electronically transmitted.
- If a return is rejected and resubmitted, the resubmitted return will receive a new Submission ID.
- When contacting the IRS, a state tax agency, or customer support regarding an electronically filed return, use the Submission ID associated with the most recent transmission.
Notes
- A Submission ID is different from an IRS acknowledgment number or state confirmation number.
- Each electronic submission receives its own unique Submission ID.
- Keep a copy of the Submission ID for your records in case you need to verify a filing submission.
