We do not provide the W-2 template within the PDF copy of the return.
Why is the W-2 not included in my PDF?
This is not an official copy of the W-2 and is not considered acceptable by the IRS when providing proof of income. This information is populated based on the taxpayer's entries and not the actual W-2 information.
How can I get a copy of my W-2?
There are several options available to you if you do not have a copy of your W-2:
- If you need a copy of your W-2, you may contact the employer who issued the W-2,
- You can pay the Social Security Administration to request a copy, here.
- If you haven't received your W-2 by January 31st, you can contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. Provide them with your employer's name, address, and phone number, along with your employment dates and an estimate of your wages and federal income tax withheld.
What should I do if my employer went out of business?
If your employer did not provide you with a copy of your W-2 by mid-February, visit the IRS website for instructions.
How to file a return without a W-2
Check Your Pay Stubs: Use your final pay stub from the year to estimate your total wages and taxes withheld. In the program, go to the W-2 entry and check the box for substitute W-2 (Form 4852). This will allow you to estimate your wages and taxes withheld. If you receive your W-2 after filing, you may need to amend your return using Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return.
