The IRS records indicate that you were previously disallowed to claim the Earned Income Credit. To be able to claim EIC this year, you must complete Form 8862.
How do I fix my return?
Did the taxpayer receive a letter indicating they can claim the Earned Income Tax Credit?
If so, complete form 8862. To do this:
- Choose the Federal Section
- Deductions
- Credits
- Claiming Refundable Credits after Disallowance Form 8862
- Information to Claim Certain Refundable Credits After Disallowance
- Claim EIC After Disallowance
Complete this section and then file your tax return again by going into the "E-file" section.
If the return rejects again for a reason related to the EITC, the taxpayer may not yet be able to claim the EITC. If this is the case, you would indicate you do not qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit.
