The IRS has extended the due date for filing your 2020 tax return from April 15th, 2021 to May 17th, 2021. Taxpayers are not required to file any forms to obtain the automatic extension. Taxpayers also have an automatic extension until May 17th to pay the amount due on their individual tax returns (business returns and estimated payments excepted).
If you need additional time to pay file your 2020 tax return, you will need to file for an extension. An extension allows you until October 15th to file your return. Please note that an extension allows you extra time to file. However, an amount due on your personal return is still due by May 17th.
