The State of California issued guidance on March 19 regarding income tax filing deadlines for individuals:
- California has extended the filing deadline to May 17th.
- FTB will waive any interest and late payment penalties that would otherwise apply if the returns are filed and the payments are made by May 17.
- First quarter estimated tax payments are still due on April 15th
- No application is required for an extension to file. You must file by the deadline to avoid a late filing penalty. An extension to file your tax return is not an extension to pay. Pay the amount you owe by May 17 to avoid penalties and interest.
