What do I need to do to get the third stimulus?
Most people will receive payments without taking any action. Please note that contacting the IRS, your financial institution, or us will not speed up the delivery of your check.
Non-filers can file a simple tax return on the IRS website using the non-filers portal.
When will the IRS send my stimulus payment?
According to this recent press release from the IRS, the third round of stimulus checks will begin reaching eligible Americans this week. The “official payment date” is March 17, and some people may see payments as pending in their accounts even before that.
How can I find the bank information where my stimulus is being sent?
The account number and routing number where your tax refund (and your stimulus payment) are being direct deposited can be found on the printable .pdf version of your tax return.
The last four digits of the bank account being used for direct deposit can be found in your account under Transaction History.
To find the last four digits of your bank account on file:
Log in to your account > My Account > Transaction History
“If there’s no bank information on my transaction history but on my copy of my taxes there’s some bank info what does that mean? Does the IRS have my bank information to send my stimulus?”
If you paid your filing fees out of your tax refund and got the rest of your refund by direct deposit, the account number where your funds were deposited is on the printed copy of your tax return. This is the account information the IRS has on file, and your stimulus payment will be sent to this same account.
Is my stimulus payment being mailed or sent direct deposit?
The IRS will send payments by direct deposit, paper check, and prepaid debit cards. They will likely deliver your third stimulus the same way you received the previous stimulus or your tax refund.
To ensure you receive the stimulus payment by direct deposit, file your 2020 tax return and choose direct deposit for your refund delivery method. If you’ve received your refund by direct deposit in prior years, filing your 2020 return now gives you the opportunity to verify your bank account information (and make sure your mailing address is current, too).
When the second stimulus checks were delivered, an IRS error caused some payments to be returned. This issue has been resolved and will not impact how your third stimulus is delivered.
Can I enter my direct deposit info into the program even if I’m not getting a tax refund?
No. For tax year 2020, you cannot enter the direct deposit information into the program if you are not receiving a refund. The IRS will deliver your third stimulus the same way you received the previous stimulus or your tax refund.
How much will the third stimulus be worth?
Those who qualify for the stimulus will receive up to $1,400 per person in their household – including $1,400 for each dependent.
As with the previous stimulus checks, the amount you’ll receive depends on your household AGI.
- Single taxpayers who earn less than $75,000 and married couples earning less than $150,000 are eligible for the full stimulus.
- Families with dependents can receive an additional $1,400 for each dependent in the household. There is no age limit for dependents this time, so college students and adult dependents are also eligible for the $1,400.
- Families with mixed citizenship (that is, at least one family member is a U.S. citizen) also qualify.
