The yellow or red banner in our program provide information about a potential issue with the tax return and how to fix it. If you see the yellow banner review the information and your manual entries in that area of the program and if the information is correct you are able to continue through the e-file process. If your entries produce a red banner you will not be able to e-file. Once the entry is adjusted appropriately you will be able to e-file the tax return.
Seeing an error or warning screen after entering your state information can be disappointing. But don't worry- we can help!
What types of errors may be on my federal tax return?
Warnings that you get after you finish your state return or click on e-file, can be attributed to several reasons.
- You indicated you had a form to complete and have not added it to the program. You can go back and add the form or click Continue to bypass.
- You have added a form (such as a retirement distribution) that has an uncommon entry. Go back and review/edit the form or click Continue to bypass.
- State withholding is reported on your W-2 but you have not added a return for that state to your account. - You can choose to add a state return at any time.
What are state validation errors?
These errors need to be corrected before you can e-file your state return. If you choose to complete the e-file process without fixing the state validation errors, only your federal return will be filed.
The errors will be listed on the first page of the E-file section. Navigate back into the State section of the main menu to correct the errors.
