Seeing an error or warning screen after entering your state information can be disappointing. But don't worry- we can help!
Errors in your State Section
Errors in the state section are represented by red dots and text. By following the text/dots, you will be brought to the area of the return that needs attention.
There may be an error on your federal return
Warnings that you get after you finish your state return or click on e-file, can be attributed to several reasons.
- You indicated you had a form to complete and have not added it to the program- You can go back and add the form or click Continue to bypass.
- You have added a form (such as a retirement distribution) that has an uncommon entry- You can go back and review/edit the form or click Continue to bypass.
- State withholdings are reported on your W-2 but you have not added a return for that state to your account. - You can choose to add a state return at any time.
State Validation Errors
These errors need to be corrected before you can e-file your state return. If you choose to complete the E-file process without fixing the state validation errors, only your federal return will be filed.
The errors will be listed on the first page of the E-file section. Navigate back into the State Section to correct the errors.
Errors Concerning Your Federal Return
These errors need to be corrected before the return can be e-filed. Click the Visit button to go back to the federal return to make corrections.
