If you did not receive the additional $500/$600/$1400 for having a qualifying dependent listed on your 2018 or 2019 return for the Economic Impact Payment, you will have the opportunity to claim this additional payment during the creation of your 2020 or 2021 tax return.
How do I know if I can claim my dependent?
If you are not sure if your dependent is considered a 'qualifying dependent', you can use the IRS interactive tool to help you in determining who you can claim as a dependent on your return.
How do I claim the additional payment within the program?
During the initial set up of your 2020/2021 tax return, you will be brought to the 'COVID-19 Tax Relief ' page (pictured below). You will be asked to enter the amount of Economic Impact Payment that you received (found on IRS Notice 1444).
If you received an Economic Impact Payment, but you did not receive the additional amount for your dependent due to not having a dependent listed on your 2018 or 2019 tax returns, the program will automatically apply this additional payment for each qualifying dependent listed on your 2020/2021 return.
