The stimulus payments are not taxable on the federal return and are not reported as income. However, you can claim a tax credit if you did not receive the payment.
If you did not receive the third stimulus payment, you need to report the information on your 2021 return to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit.
How do I claim the Recovery Rebate Credit?
When you are ready to file the tax return for the year, you will log into the account and go to the Federal Section, and select COVID-19 Relief from the navigation bar on the left side of the program. Under the Recovery Rebate section, answer Yes if you received the third stimulus payment. Enter the amount you received for the corresponding stimulus check. If there is any additional payment available, the program will calculate the amount of the credit for you.
What if I did not receive any stimulus payment at all?
Under the Recovery Rebate section, select No if you did not receive the third stimulus payment. The program will calculate the amount of the credit for you.
Please be sure you report the full amount of the third payment only received for all those listed on the return.
