The amount of medical expenses you are able to claim on the Schedule A for itemized deductions has fluctuated over the past several years. In 2017 and 2018, expenses in excess of 7.5% of the taxpayer's AGI amount were able to deducted on the Schedule A, Itemized Deductions.
In tax year 2019, the threshold was to increase to 10%. However, due to late year tax laws, the 7.5% was extended through the tax year. This means your medical and dental expenses in excess of 7.5% of your AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) can be added as an itemized deduction (Schedule A) on your return. We will complete the calculations for you based on the medical expenses you entered.
