If you received Form 1099-MISC, the way the income is reported depends on which box the amount appears in.
- Different boxes represent different types of income (e.g., rents, prizes, medical payments, etc.).
- Each type of income may need to be reported on a specific section of your tax return.
⚠️ Important:
In most cases, the program will either automatically carry the entered amount to the correct section or it will prompt you to create a specific form. If the box you're trying to enter is not available in the current input section, the income may need to be manually reported on a different form or schedule.
For example:
- Box 1 (Rents), you will see a prompt to create Schedule E
- Box 3 (Other Income) will automatically carry to a Schedule 1
- Box 7 (Nonemployee Compensation) is now reported on Form 1099-NEC, not 1099-MISC
