If you received Form 1099-PATR, Taxable Distributions Received From Cooperatives, some or all of the amounts reported may need to be included in your taxable income.
Generally, amounts reported in Boxes 1, 2, 3, and 5 are reported as income on one of the following forms, depending on the source of the income:
- Schedule F (Profit or Loss From Farming)
- Schedule C (Profit or Loss From Business)
- Form 4835 (Farm Rental Income and Expenses)
Reporting Farm or Cooperative Dividends
If your Form 1099-PATR relates to farming activities or cooperative dividends, enter the income on Schedule F.

- Select Income (Select My Forms)
- Choose Profit or Loss From Farming (Schedule F)
Reporting Farm Rental Income
If the distribution is related to farm rental activity reported on Form 4835, enter it with your farm rental income and expenses.
In the program:
- Go to Federal
- Select Income (Select My Forms)
- Choose Less Common Income
- Select Farm Rental Income and Expenses (Form 4835)
Reporting a 1099-PATR for a Business
If the Form 1099-PATR is not related to farming or cooperative dividends, report the income as business income on Schedule C.
In the program:
- Go to Federal
- Select Income (Select My Forms)
- Choose Profit or Loss From Business (Schedule C)
- Select Income
- Choose Other Income – From Sources Other Than Work or Sales
Box 10 Amounts and Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT)
If your Form 1099-PATR includes an amount in Box 10 (Investment Credit Recapture), you may need to report it as part of your Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) calculations on Form 6251.
To enter this information:
- Go to Federal
- Select Other Taxes
- Choose Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT)
- Select Other Adjustments, Including Income-Based Related Adjustments
Before You File
Keep a copy of your Form 1099-PATR with your tax records. The correct place to report the income depends on why you received the distribution. If it came from farming, farm rental activity, or a business cooperative, reporting it in the proper section helps ensure your return is accurate and that any related deductions or credits are handled correctly.
