Illinois has made the following updates/changes for tax year 2025:
- The due date for filing IL-1040 and paying any tax owed is April 15, 2026.
- The personal exemption amount for tax year 2025 is $2,850.
Illinois Tax Brackets 2025
Illinois does not have tax brackets. Since 2017, Illinois has had a flat individual income rate of 4.95 percent of net income
Form Changes
For tax year 2025, Illinois has updated the following forms:
IL-1040
- Step 1, Line A - Full date of birth is now required
- Step 12, Line 42 - Checkboxes and additional information were added to the Health Insurance Checkbox.
Schedule M
- Step 3, Line 18 - medical debt relief subtraction was added
- Step 3, line 30 - was re-worded per legislative update
Schedule IL-E/EITC
- Step 2, Line 1 - dependent amount was updated
- Step 5 - Illinois Child Tax Credit amount was increased to 40 percent of the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit (Illinois EITC). Illinois Expanded EITC Worksheet - Part 5, Lines 16 and 21 - income limits were updated
