To file a City of Detroit income tax return, please follow the steps below.
- State
- Edit Michigan Resident Return with the three dots
- Begin on City of Detroit Return
- Begin on either the Resident, Part-Year Resident, or Nonresident
- Select 'Yes' to complete the Detroit return and complete the sections that apply to you
Note: Our software only supports city returns for Detroit.
Why are my wages not pulling to the Detroit return?
When you received your W-2, it may have reported the locality name in box 20 as MIDET, or MIDETROIT. This should be entered into the program as DETROIT only. This will allow that income to be automatically carried to the City of Detroit return.
