Can I itemize on my Louisiana return if I claimed the standard deduction on the federal return?

Louisiana does not allow for a standard deduction. If you itemize on the federal return, the state instructions tell you to subtract the itemized deductions in excess of the federal standard deduction plus the federal income tax from the federal adjusted gross income when figuring the Louisiana taxable income. This is completed automatically within the program when you enter your itemized deductions in the federal section.
