If you are a New York resident that works in New Jersey, your W-2 may have both the New York and New Jersey amounts on the W-2.
If your W-2 contains both of these amounts in Box 16, the New Jersey return will pull both dollar amounts to the New Jersey return.
To correct this on your New Jersey return, you will need to remove the New York information from the W-2. Since New York is your resident state, the income will be pulled automatically to the state return and does not need to be entered on the W-2.
To make the correction, go to:
- Federal Section
- Income
- W-2
- Edit the necessary W-2 form
- Remove the Box 16 amount for New York
