When mailing your federal amended return, you will need to send the following:
- 1040-X
- Income documents such as W-2’s and 1099 forms if they support the changes on the return
- Any forms that have a calculation change from the original return
- Payments if you do not wish to pay electronically
How do I print the amended return for mailing?
The 1040-X, once created in your account, can be printed out by taking the following steps:
- Select Federal Section
- Select 20XX Amended Return
- Select Print Amended Return
- Select Print your 20XX Tax Return
Any supporting documentation that you include needs to be attached to the back of the return. Additionally, supporting documents need to be included in same order as the forms or schedules they coincide with.
How do I include my payment?
If you are sending a check or money order with your return, enclose the payment with your return but do not attach it to the return. Make monies payable to United States Treasury. On your check or money order you will need to include the following information:
- Full Name
- Social Security Number (Primary filers only)
- Current Physical Address
- Phone Number
