There are several types of Hawaii tax payments that may need to be reported on your return, including withholding, estimated tax payments, extension payments, and refunds applied to next year's taxes.
Hawaii Tax Withholding
If Hawaii income tax was withheld from your wages, pension, or other income, that information is automatically transferred from your federal forms into your Hawaii return.
Common forms that may include Hawaii withholding are:
- Form W-2 (State Information, Boxes 15–20)
- Form 1099-R (State/Local Information, Boxes 14–19)
You do not need to enter the withholding separately in the Hawaii return if it has already been entered on your federal forms.
Estimated Payments
If you made estimated payments to the State of Hawaii for the current tax year, you would need to enter these payments in the Federal Section of the program under:
- Federal
- Payments and Estimates
- State Estimated Payments (this entry will automatically pull over to the state section)
For estimated payments intended for next year, you can create Estimated Payment Vouchers within your Hawaii state return by following this path

- Miscellaneous Forms
- Estimated Payment Vouchers
Important: If you file your Hawaii return electronically, the estimated payment vouchers will not be submitted automatically. You must print and mail the voucher(s) with your payment using the instructions provided on the voucher.
Amount Paid with Extension
If you made a payment when you filed your Hawaii extension, enter that payment in your Hawaii return so you receive proper credit for it.
