Taxpayers can deduct qualified, unreimbursed medical expenses that are more than 7.5% of their 2024 adjusted gross income. So if your adjusted gross income is $40,000, anything beyond the first $3,000 of medical bills — or 7.5% of your AGI — could be deductible.
For the 2023 tax year:
You can deduct only the amount of your medical and dental expenses that is more than 7.5% of your AGI if you are itemizing our deductions.
For the 2021 and 2022 tax years:
You can deduct only the amount of your medical and dental expenses that is more than 7.5% of your AGI if you are itemizing our deductions.
