If you need to file a prior year tax return, it's important to know that our program does not support electronic filing (e-filing) for prior-year federal or state returns. This includes 2025 and earlier tax returns. Instead, you'll need to print, sign, and mail your completed return to the appropriate tax agency.
How to Print a Prior Year Return
You can access and print a prior year return directly from your account:
- Sign in to the account you used to prepare the return.
- From the Tax Home page, scroll to the Tax Returns section.
- Select the three-dot menu next to the tax year you need and choose View.
- Select Access Return.
- On the left navigation menu, select Summary/Print.
- Choose View/Print Return.
- Your return will open as a PDF, where you can view, save, or print your federal and state tax forms.
Before Mailing Your Return
Be sure to:
- Sign and date the return where required.
- Attach copies of your Form W-2 and any other supporting documents listed in your filing instructions.
- Include any required payment if you owe taxes.
- Keep a copy of the complete return for your records.
Where to Mail Your Return
- For your federal return, send Form 1040-X and all supporting documents to the IRS processing center assigned to your state of residence. The correct mailing address can be found on the IRS website.
- For a state return, refer to the state filing instructions provided with the printed forms for the correct mailing address.
