The IRS is stating that they have already processed and accepted a tax return for this year where the primary taxpayer's Social Security Number (SSN) has been entered as the primary Social Security number on another tax return.
How do I fix my return?
To make certain that you entered your Social Security number correctly:
- Basic Information
- Personal Information
- Verify the SSN
What if my information is correct?
If you did not file a return this year, you should contact the IRS Identity Theft Hotline at 877-438-4338.
The IRS requires that you print, sign and mail the return as you will not be able to file electronically.
Be sure to sign the return, include all supporting documents (W-2s) and mail to the appropriate IRS mailing address.
