If you've already e-filed your Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File, you can print or save a copy of the filed extension directly from your account. Keeping a copy for your records is a good idea, especially if you need proof that your extension was submitted.
Follow these steps to access your filed Form 4868:
- Sign in to your account.
- Select Continue or Access My Return.
- From the left-side navigation menu, choose Review > Summary.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Print Return.
Your Form 4868 will be included with your available tax documents and can be printed, viewed, or saved as a PDF.
If You Haven't Paid Your Federal Filing Fee Yet
Before you can print your extension documents, you may need to complete payment for any outstanding federal filing fees.
- Go to Review > Print Results from the left-side menu.
- Complete the payment process if prompted.
- Once payment is finalized, return to the print options to view, save, or print your tax documents.
You won't be charged again when you're ready to e-file your tax return later, unless you choose to upgrade your account or add additional state returns.
The Form 4868 Application for Extension will be added to your group of tax documents and will be included in the e-filed information when you e-file the rest of the tax returns using the same username and tax year.
