You may claim either the K-40H (Homestead Claim) or K-40PT (Property Tax Credit) or K-40SVR (Seniors and Disabled Veterans). The Homestead Refund program offers a refund for homeowners who meet the criteria below.
Qualifications for the Homestead Claim (K-40H):
- Must be a Kansas resident the entire tax year;
- Owner of your home;
- Total household income is $42,600 or less; AND
- Over age 55, or blind, or disabled, OR has dependent child who lived with you and was under age 18, for the entire tax year.
Qualifications for Property Tax Relief for Low Income Seniors (K-40PT):
- Must be a Kansas resident the entire tax year;
- Home owner during the tax year;
- Age 65 or older for the entire tax year;
- Total household income of $24,500 or less;
- Home value is less than $350,000
Qualifications for Property Tax Relief for Seniors and Disabled Veterans (K-40SVR):
- Must be a Kansas resident the entire tax year;
- Homestead for entire tax year;
- Age 65 or older for the entire tax year; OR
- Disabled veteran for entire year; OR
- Surviving spouse of a disabled veteran who has not remarried, or the surviving spouse of an active duty military personnel who died in the line of duty and not remarried;
- Total household income of $56,450 or less;
- Appraised value is less than $350,000;
- If you filed a Form K-40H or K-40PT for 2024, you cannot claim this refund
