On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court decided the case of Obergefell v. Hodges requiring all states to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples and to recognize same-sex marriages that were performed in other jurisdictions. As a result, all states are now required to allow same-sex couples to file a married filing joint or married filing separate return. Please check with your individual state to determine if your state requires you to file the same on both the state and federal returns.
