Generally, all of your income is required to be reported on your tax return. However, if your only source of income is Social Security Benefits, you probably do not need to file a tax return.
Enter your Social Security information into the program and we will calculate the taxable portion that is required to be reported on the tax return for you.
To check to see if you are required to file a return:
- Enter your Social Security Information into the program
- Go to the Summary/Print tab
- Click on Total Income. If there is no amount listed on the line for 'Taxable amount - Social Security benefits' and this is your ONLY income, you are not required to file a return
You can also use the IRS Interactive Tax Assistant to learn if you are required to file a federal tax return or not.
