This is an important form that you receive from your employer(s) for the past year that shows your wages/salary, taxes withheld, Social Security and Medicare information and any contribution(s) made to a retirement plan, medical account or child care reimbursement.
Where to enter Form W-2 within your account?
If you received this form, you can enter it in your account by selecting:
- Federal Section
- Select My Forms (Continue)
- Income
- W-2 (Begin)
If you need to add an additional W-2 for yourself or your spouse select:
- Federal
- Income
- W-2 (Add/Edit)
- Add a W-2 Wage Statement (green plus sign above W-2 entry)
Where to add your spouse's W-2?
The program will not prompt you to enter your spouse's information separate from the taxpayer's information. Click on +Add a W-2 to add another W-2 form. Within the form, you can designate if the form belongs to yourself or your spouse.
Where to enter your dependent's W-2?
You cannot add your dependent's W-2 into the program. If your dependent earned income, they will need to determine if they are required to file their own return. Visit the IRS website for dependent filing requirements.
Additional Information
- When reporting your W-2 within the program, the "Employee's name" box cannot be edited. This information is pulled from the Basic Information section of your return.
- If you get an error due to your "Employer's name" length, play with it so you have the most important aspect of the name. The IRS identifies W-2s based on the EIN so the employer's name does not need to be exact.
