If you haven't e-filed your tax return yet, you can easily make changes by signing in to your account and updating the information before submitting your return.
Log In to Your Account
Start by logging in to your account using the username and password you used when creating the return. If you've created more than one account, make sure you're signing in to the correct one.
Update Your Return
From the My Account screen:
- Select the tax year you want to edit.
- Open the section of the return that needs to be updated using the navigation menu on the left side of the screen.
- Make your changes.
- Select Continue or Save after updating any information to ensure your changes are recorded.
You can update most areas of the return before filing, including income, deductions, credits, personal information, and dependent details.
File Your Updated Return
After you've finished making changes:
- Select E-file from the navigation menu.
- Review your return for accuracy.
- Complete the e-file process to electronically submit your return.
If you're not ready to file, select Save & Log Out to securely save your progress and return later.
Note: The contact information associated with the account—specifically the email address and phone number—will populate the tax return exactly as entered. The system does not support using alternate contact details or leaving these fields blank
What If I Already Submitted My Return?
If you've already transmitted your return and received a reject code from the IRS or state tax agency, you'll need to correct the issue before resubmitting. For information on common reject codes, please visit our How Do I Fix a Reject Code? knowledgebase article.
