When you are logged into your account, select the year you wish to access on the Tax Home screen. Next, use the three dots to select View under the desired tax year within the Tax Returns section at the bottom, followed by "Access Return" or "Fix Return". From the main menu of your prior year return, select "Federal Section" located on the left navigation bar. On the left sub-navigation bar click "Payments & Estimates". Navigate to the "Direct Deposit Information" entry tab and select Begin. This is the area of your prior year return to provide your banking information to receive your prior year refund via Direct Deposit. The banking information that you provide will be listed on your 1040 as your refund method.
If you are paper filing a prior year state return and wish for your refund to be direct deposited, you must write your routing and account number in the applicable space once you print the return.
Can I e-file my prior year return?
At this time, the IRS and state(s) do not allow prior year returns to be electronically filed using self-preparation software. You will, however, be able to receive your prior year refund via Direct Deposit by following the instructions above.
*Note: The IRS and state(s) require that prior year returns be printed and mailed.
