If you choose to file your tax return by mail, or if you're required to submit a paper return, you'll need to send it to the correct mailing address.
The IRS uses different processing centers based on the tax form you're filing, your state of residence, and whether you're including a payment with your return.
How to Find the Correct Federal Mailing Address
- Visit the IRS Where to File page on the IRS website.
- Select your state from the list provided.
- Locate the form you're filing (such as Form 1040) in the chart.

Mailing State Tax Returns
State tax returns must be mailed separately to the appropriate state tax agency.
Keep these important reminders in mind:
- Do not mail your state return with your federal return.
- Do not send state returns to an IRS processing center.
