Why choose it:
- ⚡ Fastest method: Typically 10–21 days
- 🔐 Secure and electronic
- 🏦 Works with checking, savings, or GO2bank
Best for:
Anyone with a bank account who wants the fastest refund possible.
📬 Mailed Check
2026 IRS Payment Modernization Update
(Based on IRS guidance issued Jan. 27, 2026 — Executive Order 14247)
The IRS is transitioning to more secure, electronic, bank‑based payments. Here’s what taxpayers need to know:
⏱ Will this transition delay tax refunds?
Answer: Yes, if the taxpayer selected a mailed check.
If you file without bank details (chose Mailed Check):
- Your return will still be accepted
- The IRS will mail a letter asking for updated banking information
- You’ll receive a CP53E notice requesting a response within 30 days
If you do not respond:
- The IRS will issue a paper check after six weeks, assuming no other issues
Important:
IRS agents cannot accept banking information by phone or in person.
☎️ Will the IRS call or text for banking information?
Answer: The IRS will never request your banking information by phone, email, or text.
✔ They will only contact you by mail using your last‑known address.
🏦 GO2bank Account
What it is:
You can open a new GO2bank account and have your refund deposited directly into it. A GO2bank debit card arrives within 7–10 business days after the IRS accepts your return.
Benefits:
- ⏱ Get your federal refund up to 5 days early
(Not guaranteed; depends on IRS timing and fraud checks) - 💳 Convenient debit card access
- 🔐 Safe and electronic delivery
Need help?
You can visit GO2bank Customer Support for questions about your account.
Disclaimer required by GO2bank:
Refund timing is not guaranteed. The IRS must have matching SSN and name records to release funds via direct deposit.
🔄 File & Go (Refund Transfer)
What it is:
Your preparation and bank fees are deducted from your refund, so you pay nothing upfront. Your refund is then directly deposited into your bank account or GO2bank card.
Timing: Typically 10–18 days
Requirements:
- Valid phone number
- Valid email
- Verifiable ID
- Bank account information
- A federal refund large enough to cover all fees
How it works:
This method is similar to Direct Deposit, except fees are taken from the refund before it’s deposited.
Availability:
✔ Available exclusively to TaxSlayer customers.
