Massachusetts allows for an exclusion of certain government pensions/annuities. These qualified pensions include contributory pensions from the U.S. Government or the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and its political subdivisions and noncontributory military pensions.
For your convenience, we have pulled over the amount to show the taxable pension listed on the federal return.
Where do I enter?
If the amount pulled over is exempt under state law, make the manual entry by following the steps below:
- State
- Massachusetts
- Income Subject to Tax
- Exempt Pensions and Annuities
Massachusetts does not tax Social Security and that income should not be included as income on the Form 1.
