If you take the standard deduction, you cannot claim charitable contributions on your federal return.
The standard deduction for the 2020 tax year is $12,400 for single filers, $18,650 for heads of household and, $24,800 for married couples filing jointly. However, if your itemized deductions exceed the standard deduction for your filing status, and age, you may take itemized deductions and claim the Charitable Contributions.
