If you are filing a 2024-25 FAFSA form, you must use the federal tax information from your 2023 tax returns. You can do this by using the Internal Revenue Service Data Retrieval Tool (IRS DRT), or by referring to a copy of your 2023 tax return.
If you filed a return using our program, log into your account and select the Prior Years tab. Select the 2023 tax year and click on Access Return followed by View or Print Return.
If you do not see the View or Print Return button, you may have filed using a different account or the return was not e-filed. Use the Forgot Username link on the Home Page to see if you have more than one account.
If you used another software provider or you printed and mailed the return, you can get a transcript of the filed return from the IRS. The IRS has rigorous identity authentication requirements. Please review these on the IRS website. You can also call 800-908-9946 to order a transcript by mail. A transcript by mail will take 5 to 10 calendar days.
If you filed an amended return (1040X) for 2023, use the adjusted gross income and earned income as shown on the amended return.
What are the eligibility requirements?
There are no FAFSA income limits or maximum income to qualify for financial aid, but there is an earnings cap to achieve a zero-dollar Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Many factors—such as the size of your family, the school you attend or want to attend, and your year in school—are considered.
The EFC is an out-of-pocket figure — the amount of a school’s Cost of Attendance (COA) that you’ll have to cover after accounting for federal, state or school-based aid. COA - EFC = Financial need.
For 2023, if you’re a dependent student and your family has a combined income of $29,000 or less, your expected contribution to college costs would automatically be zero. The same goes if you (as an independent student) and your spouse earn no more than $29,000 annually.
Once your EFC is determined, it’s subtracted from your school’s cost of attendance (COA) to determine your Financial need.
You can complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form for federal student aid for the 2024–25 award year between July 1, 2024, and 11:59 p.m. Central time (CT) on June 30, 2025. Any FAFSA corrections or updates must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. CT on Sept. 14, 2025.
Our program does not currently support the FAFSA from.
