Each account username can be used to create one (1) Federal tax return.
If you need to prepare a return for another person (such as a spouse, child, parent, or other family member), you must create a separate account for that individual.
✅ You may link up to five (5) different usernames to the same email address and phone number.
👥 How to Create Another Account for a Different Family Member or User
To prepare a return for someone else:
- Log out of your current account
- Select Create Account or Sign Up
- Create a new username for the additional taxpayer
- You may reuse the same email address and phone number
- Complete the return under that new account
📌 Tip: Each taxpayer must have their own username, even if you manage multiple returns.
⚠️ Important Warning
Usernames and returns cannot be merged, transferred, or consolidated under any circumstances.
❓ Why Is There a Five‑Return Limit?
The IRS limits the number of individual tax returns a person can prepare and e‑file to five (5) returns.
This rule helps ensure that:
- Paid tax preparers are properly identified
- Preparers are held accountable for the returns they file
Anyone who prepares more than five returns for pay is considered a professional tax preparer by the IRS.
⚠️ Important IRS Requirement
If you prepare more than five (5) tax returns for compensation, you must:
- Use professional tax preparation software
