If there is an expectation of a refund on the federal return, the "File & Go" option can be chosen to deduct the preparation fees from the refund. However, the federal refund must cover the filing fees and any additional fees. This option incurs a separate processing fee imposed by the third-party bank.
If the IRS does not issue the refund and the bank cannot recover the tax preparation fees, the fees may be deducted from the account indicated in the agreement. This feature is available only to TaxSlayer customers.
Why don't I see this option? (list is not exhaustive)
- A taxpayer cannot be a dependent on another person's return
- Age (under 18)
- Return rejected multiple times
- Refund amount
- The taxpayer selected a mailed check as the refund option
- Savings bonds
- P.O. Box mailing address
- Etc.
