If your federal return was rejected for a Form 8962 (Premium Tax Credit) error, you can use this guide to identify the reject code and correct the issue so you can resubmit successfully. These rejects are commonly related to Marketplace health insurance (Form 1095‑A) information.
Before You Begin
Have this available:
- Form 1095‑A (Health Insurance Marketplace Statement)
- Access to the Health Insurance section of your TaxSlayer return
Form 8962 is generated automatically based on your answers and 1095‑A entries. It cannot be edited directly.
Reject Code 8962‑070
Form 8962 Required but Missing
What This Means
The IRS indicates that someone on the return had Marketplace insurance and advance Premium Tax Credit payments, but Form 8962 was not included with the return.
How to Fix It
- Open your return and select Fix Return
- Go to Health Insurance
- Answer Yes to having Marketplace insurance
- Enter all information exactly as shown on Form 1095‑A
- Continue through the section and re‑e‑file the return
If You Believe This Is an Error
If no one on the return had Marketplace insurance:
- Return to Health Insurance
- Select “No Tax Family Member had Marketplace Coverage and we had Employer Health Insurance”
- This selection only becomes available after receiving the 8962‑070. By choosing this option, our program will include a statement affirming that no Marketplace coverage was used.
- Continue and re‑e‑file your return(s)
Reject Code F8962‑063

- Navigate to Health Insurance
- Answer Yes to the Marketplace insurance question
- Confirm all household members are listed

Shared Policy Allocation Error
What This Means
The IRS could not validate how policy amounts were allocated when the 1095‑A covers more than one tax household (for example, divorced parents, shared custody, or roommates).
How to Fix It
- Select Fix Return
- Go to Health Insurance
- Review your 1095‑A entries
- Indicate that the policy is shared, if applicable
- Enter the allocation percentage for this return only
- Complete the section and re‑e‑file
Tip: Enter your percentage, not the other taxpayer’s portion, even if their SSN is listed.
After You Make Corrections
- Go to E‑file
- Follow the prompts to resubmit your return
- Watch for confirmation that your return was accepted
