You will need to create a state return first. Follow these steps:
- Select State from the left-side menu
- Click Get Started
- Choose State - You can either click on the map or select from the drop-down menu
- Select your residency type
- Proceed to answer the questions for the state return
When you create the state return the program will pull some information from your federal return automatically such as state income information that was reported on your W-2 or 1099 forms. If you need to add or adjust information, select Yes, Add More Items, then choose the heading which relates to the information that you would like to add.
You can add additional state returns if needed by selecting Add Another State Return on the State Return screen.
Note: A state return cannot be filed electronically using the program without first creating and filing a federal return.
