When e-filing your return, nothing needs to be sent to the IRS. However, when mailing your return, you will need to provide the IRS with some documentation.
What do I need to send to the IRS?
If you mail your return to the IRS, you will need to include all forms and schedules printed in your PDF. You can omit any forms that are marked as 'keep for your records'. Also include any W-2(s) and 1099 form(s). You will need to sign the return.
What do I need to send to the state?
It is recommended to send a copy of the federal 1040 form. Also include copies of the W-2(s) and 1099 Form(s). You will need to sign the state return.
If you are filing with more than one state and claiming a credit for taxes paid to the other state, also include a copy of that state's return.
