If you e-file an amended federal return, you can elect to receive your amended refund by mailed check. The check will be mailed to the address listed on your amended return, so be sure your mailing address is current before filing.
What about my amended state refund?
Because amended state returns are generally paper-filed, refunds are often issued by mailed check. However, some states do allow direct deposit for amended refunds.
When completing your amended state return, look for a Direct Deposit option in the Amended Return section. If available, enter your routing and account numbers to have your refund deposited directly into your bank account.
If you do not see a direct deposit option within the software, review the printed amended return for a section where banking information can be entered. If neither option is available, your state will mail the refund to the address shown on your return.
